It’s a Wrap … a New Utility Box Artwrap

In every large mosaic piece I make, I always insert a small, “off-topic” item. I’ve included the initials of my kids. A small, silver dog bone. Secret messages. Funny buttons. A red heart, and peace signs. Why? It’s a reminder to never take my self or my art too seriously.

I took that thinking a step further when asked to participate in an artist-designed utility box contestfor a local municipality. I wanted imagery that would be light-hearted and enjoyable for all passersby. Yet, I had a very small stipend to consider.

The solution: Create new artwork by combining a few images of my past, most popular artwork. I overlapped a goldfish bowl on the backdrop of a caterpillar-ish creature. It was selected as one of three winners. I’ll post an install photo soon.
