Stacia's Mosaic News! Summer 2021

We’ve jumped into July with fresh mosaic headlines, including a feature story in the Minneapolis Star Tribune’s quarterly magazine. Check it out, then scroll below for public art updates, work-in-progress shots, and new pieces available for art consultants and interior designers.

Public Art News

New Public Art Award: La Crosse (Wisconsin) Center. We’re headed to our neighboring state this Fall to install a large mosaic mural at the newly renovated La Crosse Center. We made a pre-proposal site visit to study the area’s distinct story – geographically, his/herstorically, culturally. The art task force selected our nature-based design, which will include collaboration with an artist from Wisconsin's Ho Chunk community. (La Crosse is the original ancestral land of the Ho Chunk Nation.)

Watch this brief TV announcement.

Our design celebrates the beautiful natural imagery and Indigenous artistry of the La Crosse area.

Coming Soon: Montana State University. We’re headed to Bozeman next month to wrap an 18-foot-high lobby column with a bold, intertwining fire-and-water design. (See: Artists Selected for New American Indian Hall.)

This is a tremendous honor, two years in the making. We have approached this commission with deep reverence for its sacred elements, and with much research and collaboration. Look for post-install photos in our Fall e-newsletter.

See the Fabrication Process:

A color key helps track the many materials: 99% recycled glass tile, hand-cut stained glass, mirror, various glass accents.

Healing Artwork. Our pulse spiked when we opened the June/July issue of Healthcare Design (page 42). The magazine features “Mississippi River Renewal,” our two-story, healing mosaic art for St. Cloud State University’s Student Health and Wellness Center, installed in 2019. See more photos here. We also installed this companion lobby mosaic:

“Ask-Me-A-Question” Corner

Question: Do you break your tile and glass with a hammer?
Answer: Ouch, and no. We have an impressive cache of tools (and skills), mostly manual, but some powered, to make precision cuts of:
• Stained glass
• Ceramic tile
• Wood
• Metal

• Brand objects
