New work: Indiana Welcome Center

Our newest public art installation has landed. We completed “Indiana State Icons” last month for the Indiana Department of Transportation’s new Black River Welcome Center. The commission is four 6-feet x 3-feet mosaic murals. We proposed this theme:

Indiana State Bird – “Cardinal” (6’ x 3’) glass, mirror accents; ceramic tile border.

IIndiana State Tree – “Tulip Tree” (6’ x 3’) glass, mirror accents; ceramic tile border. Watch this quick video that shows the incredible details.

Indiana State Flower – “Peony” (6’ x 3’) glass, mirror accents; ceramic tile border.

Indiana State Insect – “Firefly” (6’ x3’) glass, ceramic tile border.

NOTE: If you’re road tripping, stop by the Black River Welcome Center at Interstate 64, Mile Marker 7, Eastbound (near Poseyville). It’s slated to open in late 2025. Fosse & Associates Architects used a clever Lincoln Log theme.

The Black River Welcome Center has a Lincoln Log-inspired design.

In Progress: Residential Kitchen

The best kind of email: “We’re building a lake home, and we’d love to have your work in it.” Heck yes! Plus, the clients were willing to wait a year, due to our schedule. Now, it’s all systems go on this custom commission. It’s been a wonderful collaboration of listening to their vision, designing, and selecting materials. Below is a sneak peak of the abstract mosaic we’re creating for the kitchen’s feature wall.

This is the approved design for the kitchen’s feature wall (4.5’ x 4’).

The mixed-media mosaic includes hand-cut stained glass, agate slices, misc. beads, and gorgeous hand-made "bubble" tile by Mercury Mosaics Tile.

Healthcare Highlight

November still qualifies as Fall, right? In the spirit of Fall splendor, here's our whimsical mosaic "Bear Trio," blast from the past – it's too darn cute not to share again. This healing healthcare art lives in the NICU lobby area of a children's hospital.

"Bear Trio" (3 @ 18" x 30") glass, tile, mirror, misc., in custom wood frames.

In the News

Art Dedication Event: On September 19, members of the Maryland State Arts Council and the Maryland Public Art Commission gathered to dedicate "Dig Deep," our mixed-media public art mosaic at Frostburg State University. The abstract mosaic of the geostrata beneath the University lives in its new Education & Health Sciences Center. We installed it last year.

In photo (left to right): MSAC Executive Director Steven Skerritt-Davis, Public Art Program Director Ryan Patterson, members of the Maryland Public Art Commission, and others.

"Dig Deep" (23' wide x undulating 6' high) ceramic tile, glass, fossils and rocks sourced by University students, misc. found objects.
